10 Best Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Songs

5. 'Into My Arms'- From The Boatman's Call

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnHoqHscTKE Some Bad Seeds fans will be outraged that I placed this song so low on the list. There is no doubt that this song remains one of Cave's most beloved, with Cave performing it at Michael Hutchence's funeral as a tribute to his fellow Australian singer. The song has been on numerous soundtracks- from crime caper Gettin' Square to rom-com About Time. Like much of the Boatman's Call, 'Into My Arms' is an exercise of restraint. Cave wrote the album entirely by himself which was a major departure from the usual collaborative efforts that the Bad Seeds were constructing before this. As such the album is dominated by Cave's voice and piano- with Martyn Casey's bass the only other instrument heard on 'Into My Arms'. The song's lyrics are amongst the most beautiful that Cave has written, telling his soon-to-be-ex lover about how he hopes she will be protected and safe, even when they are apart and how he hopes that someday, whatever has happened in their past, they will be able to put it all aside and start again.
