10 Best Nu-Metal Albums Of The 00s
1. Slipknot - Iowa (2001)
The Iowan nine managed to do what nobody thought was thought possible - top the ‘luck’ behind the self-titled album.
The term ‘luck’ is used ironically as the music media had already written the band off prior to their first album, and subsequently tried to find a way to dampen the inferno the band were about to spark. Perhaps out of fear, perhaps out of ignorance, or perhaps out of knowledge what the Slipknot steamroller would go on to become - THE biggest metal band in the world.
Iowa is the holy grail. While the band had moved to a much darker and sinister sound, there were still enough nu-metal roots to tie to album to the genre, while at the same time putting their signature twist on it enough to be undefinable - that really is the beauty of the evolving beast that is Slipknot.
Iowa is straight up savage. People=S**t gave the middle finger to everyone and everything, Gently gave a look into an eerily-emotionally driven ‘Knot and My Plague push the band towards a wider audience.
Simply put, Iowa is a masterpiece.
