10 Best Nu-Metal Albums Of The 00s
9. Disturbed - The Sickness (2000)
The Sickness introduced the untameable and unmistakable vocals of David Draiman to the unsuspecting nu-metal scene - perhaps one of the most recognisable vocal signatures within metal.
While Disturbed are primarily a hard rock band nowadays their roots were undoubtedly in nu-metal during the early noughties. Draiman’s chattering lyrics act like a chainsaw cutting through the head-banging guitar riffs in such songs as Stupidify and Down With The Sickness. The hidden gem on the album is without a doubt the hauntingly heavy Droppin’ Plates.
The underpinning ‘nu’ aspect Disturbed brought to the forefront of the movement is the pinging electronic stylings littered throughout the whole album, giving a unique listening experience.
If all else fails to ‘sell’ the importance of The Sickness, it is home to the inaugural echo of ‘ohh whah wa wa wa wa’.
