10 Best Number One Rock Albums Of The 1980s

1. The Wall - Pink Floyd

There you have it, folks, the best number one rock album of the 1980s was released in... 1979.

Oh.

To be fair to Pink Floyd's seminal release, The Wall, it wasn't a chart-topper until January 19th 1980, almost two months after its release. Once it reached this position, it would remain there for 15 weeks, making it the best-selling album of the entire year.

A concept album following the character of Pink, a washed-up musician who descends into madness, The Wall was another example of the band turning traditional rock music into high art. The outstanding Another Brick in the Wall section of the album was worth buying the whole thing for, with tracks like Run Like Hell and Comfortably Numb only adding more value for money.

Simply put, The Wall is one of the greatest albums of all time regardless of genre in both a commercial and artistic sense. When they were good, there were few better than the Floyd at telling intricate stories over immaculately played songs and the American public of the 1980s lapped it up.

Not the British though, as The Wall only got to number 3 over there.

Uncultured swines.
