10 Best Number One Rock Albums Of The 1990s
2. Metallica - Metallica
Prior to 1991, Metallica had been the biggest of big cheeses in the metal community, but the highest chart position they had achieved was number 6 with their most recent effort, ...And Justice for All.
When the year was out, they would have their first number one, beginning a run of chart-toppers that would last for over three decades.
The record to do this was self-titled, but everyone knows it as The Black Album due to its mostly-black front cover. There's a sneaky picture of a snake on there, but you have to squint to see it.
This entry could give a detailed and analytical view of the various intricacies that make this album so great, but honestly, the most effective way to convey that is to just list the songs on it.
Enter Sandman; Sad but True; The Unforgiven; Wherever I May Roam; Nothing Else Matters; Of Wolf and Man; these are just some of the fabled tracks to grace The Black Album's back cover.
All this and so much more sent the album to number one for four weeks and ensured that Metallica would have a presence towards the top of the charts forever more.
