10 Best Number One Rock Albums Of The 1990s
1. Nevermind - Nirvana
The best number one rock album of the entire 90s was number one for a total of... two weeks... non-consecutively... either side of a Garth Brooks albums.
Doesn't sound like much, does it?
However, when you discover that said album is the one that changed it all for grunge, alternative rock, and rock in general, you might be a bit more forgiving.
Nevermind by Nirvana is one of those albums that is basically impossible to bring any original ideas to, as it has been poked, prodded, and dissected by everyone and their dog since its 1991 release. It slingshotted grunge into the public eye, brought elements of indie, metal, and punk together with Kurt Cobain's unique worldview, and gave the world Smells Like Teen Spirit, the unofficial anthem of early 90s youth culture.
It invites you to revel in its despair before screaming at you to jump up and down until your feet bleed. It introduced a whole generation of young people to the idea of starting a band, and it remains one of the greatest artistic feats of the last three decades.
So, yeah, it sort of had to be top.
