10 Best Opening Tracks On Debut Rock Albums

9. I Wanna Be Adored - The Stone Roses (The Stone Roses)

Indie outfit The Stone Roses are one of those bands that are so revered due to their lack of actual output.

With only two studio albums to their name, Stone Roses tracks are like gold dust to fans, especially when they're as good as I Wanna Be Adored.

Track 1 on their 1989 self-titled debut, I Wanna Be Adored starts off with some strange, otherworldly-sounding ambient noises before the bass guitar kicks in 40 seconds into the track.

The singing doesn't start until about two minutes in, letting the mixture of sounds and instruments wash over you. Then, when Ian Brown's instantly recognisable voice does show up, you realise you're in for a good time.

His downtrodden, defeated vocals must have set mopey teenage hearts alight when they first heard it, as the genre we know today as indie hadn't officially arrived yet.

Hidden amongst the excellent music on display on this song is a simple yet relatable message - I Wanna Be Adored. It's something everyone can sympathise with on some level and sets the stage for the down-to-Earth, honest themes on the rest of The Stone Roses' excellent first offering.
