10 Best Opening Tracks On Debut Rock Albums

8. Going Under - Fallen (Evanescence)

When your first album has this song, Bring Me To Life, and My Immortal on it, you know you've done well for yourself.

US goth rockers Evanescence exploded onto the scene with 2003's Fallen, a record as dark and moody as the title would suggest. If rock fans hadn't heard of Amy Lee before, then they were about to, as her operatic voice is the very first thing on this album.

Though starting off low and vicious on Going Under, Lee soon bursts into life as the song ramps up. By the time the chorus arrives, she goes full belt, blowing the minds (and eardrums) of first-time listeners everywhere.

Don't sleep on the music on this track either. It's fairly basic, but that's to not distract from the main event of the singing. Also, the full sounds of the backing track immerse the listener in the song - much like its protagonist is immersed in the despair of their situation.

Evanescence got their entire mission statement across in the first 90 seconds of their first album and the song still holds up as one of their best.
