10 Best Opening Tracks On Debut Rock Albums

6. Blitzkrieg Bop - Ramones (Ramones)

One complaint often levelled at "family" punk band Ramones is that all their songs sound the same.

Whilst this is true to some extent, hey, we didn't know that when their self-titled debut came around in 1976. We just thought they sounded cool.

Blitzkrieg Bop originally started life as an innocent tune about some teenagers going to a rock concert. "Animal Hop" as it was known at the time was written by drummer Tommy Ramone and named by bassist Dee Dee.

And then the Nazis got involved.

They changed the theme of the song entirely, removing the wholesomeness by making a reference to the Third Reich's quick style of warfare in the damn title. If anything though, this only added to the group's mystique. Who were these shabby looking young men who played fast, shouted loud, and sang about Blitzkrieg?

You don't need to be told how popular this song still is many years on from its release. It still gets good radio play, has been featured in countless TV shows and movies, and is probably the first song most people would think of when asked about Ramones.

Hey ho indeed.
