Riot! has become a pop-punk classic since its release back in 2007, and though ‘Misery Business’ was a huge hit, the real standout on the band’s sophomore album was the third single.

‘Crushcrushcrush’ is one of those rare songs that is essentially a cohesive string of hooks from start to finish. The verses alone are enough to make anyone bob their head given the combination of the catchy drum and bass patterns with the palm-muted guitar chords.

The chorus then opens up with some distortion and a sharp vocal delivery from Williams. As simple as this section is, it maintains the catchy quality of the verses and has plenty of attitude.

The short instrumental sections throughout the song are also a highlight. As well as the intense close to the song, the little riff that plays before the pre-chorus adds still more flavour to the track.

No other Paramore song quite captures the pure catchiness of ‘Cruchcrushcrush’, and thanks to a prominent drum track and plenty of distortion, it also happens to be one of the band’s heavier tunes.
