10 Best Pop Albums Of 2018

4. Superorganism - Superorganism

Superorganism shouldn't work. Comprised of eight musicians, varying in age and nationality, the band formed through online forums and mutual friends, eventually joining forces in the flesh to begin work on a debut album in 2017.

Unsurprisingly, the finished product is just as post-modern as their origins. Eight vibrant personalities coming together, each with their own unique musical preoccupations, could have resulted in a record falling apart at the seams. Instead, Superorganism took their distinct talents and delivered one of the most confident, cohesive debut albums ever.

It's the little affectations that give the record so much personality though. Some acts - even pop acts - limit themselves to "real" instruments (or at least virtual versions of them), but Superorganism's ten songs are textured with the sounds of cash registers, car engines, and apples being bitten into.

The band embrace everything at their disposal like a kid discovering they can make their keyboard sound like a helicopter for the first time, but make sure these elements only add to the memorable, simple hooks already at the heart of each song.
