10 Best Pop Punk Albums Of 2016
5. Weezer - The White Album
Weezer are a weird band to try and define. Their style of music has been all over the place since The Blue Album dropped in 1994, but there's no denying they've had an enormous influence on pop punk over the years, and have certainly been known to write records filled with pop punk tracks.
Their latest release, The White Album, is one of the best things they've released since the early years, and has a lot in common with those pop punk records, so it definitely merits inclusion on this list.
The White Album follows on from 2014's Everything Will Be Alright In The End, a record that was considered something of a return to form for the band. It's no secret that Weezer spent much of the 2000s chasing mainstream success, bastardising their sound in the process (nobody wants to listen to a Weezer song with a hip-hop feature).
Still, The White Album strips all of that ambition away in favour of a bunch of solid, catchy songs. The tunes are fantastic, the lyrics are simultaneously funny and poignant, and most important of all, Rivers Cuomo isn't desperately trying to impress anyone. He's just playing and singing great songs, which is all we ever wanted in the first place.
