10 Best Pop-Punk Records

7. Paramore - Riot!

Yeah, speaking of the pop-punk scene opening up to different vocal styles, Paramore came out in the mid-2000's like a pop-punk tidal wave. After a solid debut in 2005, the band returned from touring and came through with Riot!, a pop-punk powerhouse that oozed teen angst.

While the instrumentation is solid throughout each of these tracks, the true power behind this band is vocalist Hayley Williams, whose voice is an emotional wrecking ball throughout hits like "Misery Business" and "That's What You Get." At the time, pop-punk was known for vocalists that sounded bratty and somewhat whiny as they screeched towards the higher notes in their range. Bucking the trend of pop-punk vocals, Williams's voice is what happens when you take the pop-punk sound of a band like Blink-182 and inject it with the vocal chops of someone like Mariah Carey.

The hooks are also fantastic as the songs deliver fantastic tales of heartache across its lean 40 minutes. As the years have gone, Paramore have evolved into a band more inclined with pop than punk. However, fans will always have Riot! as one of the definitive releases from the pop punk scene of the 2000's.
