Every now and then you get a prodigy in hip hop, who from the moment words start to come out of their mouth people already know they're set to be legendary. Nas was one of those legends. If his brief, yet impactful guest appearance on Live at the BBQ by Main Source started the buzz about the Queens Bridge artist then it was his debut album Illmatic that let everyone know he was going to be a rap monster. The scary thing about Nas is that he was an 18-year-old kid, he seemingly had better skills than some seasoned hip hop veterans. Throughout the years he's grown with his world play and has taken on the sort of subjects rarely touched in the world of hip hop like abortion and raising a daughter. He might not have had the same financial success as his peer and former nemesis Jay Z, but he's lyrically on par with almost anybody in the game.
