10 Best Replacement Singers Of All Time
7. William DuVall - Alice in Chains
Any thought of Alice in Chains continuing on after their hiatus pretty much ended in April of 2002 when Layne Staley passed away. Although part of a vocal duo with Jerry Cantrell, the amount of pain and anguish that Layne put into every performance was something that could never be recaptured. Then again, sometimes life can take musicians in a few mysterious directions.
While working on solo material, Jerry Cantrell would do mini tours with vocalist William DuVall duetting with him on some Alice tunes. Deciding to take Alice out on the road one more time as a celebration of Layne's legacy, things started to get much more serious when they began to write material together. Emerging in the late '00s, DuVall roared into the metal world with an axe to grind on Black Gives Way to Blue, having just as much grit in his voice as Layne but with a unique character all its own.
From the first few minutes of jamming together on Love Hate Love, the rest of the band seemed to agree, being stunned by the sheer power that DuVall had in his middle register. Even as he takes his first few steps into songwriting on some of Alice's recent records, DuVall's talent makes it feel like this iteration of Alice is only just getting started.
