10 Best Revenge Songs
3. Ariana Grande - "Thank U, Next" (2019)
Equal parts revenge song and self-empowerment anthem, Ariana Grande's "thank u, next" was a certified success almost as soon as it released, debuting straight at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and nabbing Grande her first number one single in the United States.
Despite having announced a break from music following the death of ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, Grande was back in the studio less than two months after releasing her previous album Sweetener, and "thank u, next" (the title track of the album) clearly draws on her many emotions about both Miller's death and the growing spat between her and her recent ex-fiance, comedian Pete Davidson.
The best part about "thank u, next" is that, rather than come out swinging at her previous partners, she instead roots the song in her own personal growth. It's almost certain that there isn't going to be any sweeter satisfaction than dropping a track that's so successful, and is entirely about how you're doing so much better than you were in the relationship. It's effectively the musical equivalent of having the last laugh in an argument.
Catchy, up-beat, and empowering; what more could you want?
