10 Best Rock Album Closers Ever
1. Eclipse - The Dark Side Of The Moon
It goes without saying that 1973's The Dark Side Of The Moon is one of the most celebrated albums in recent music history. Taking into consideration the calibre of the songs present on it, it is easy to understand why.
Pink Floyd's eighth studio album is packed with emotionally charged tracks, all of which culminate in the finale, "Eclipse". The true brilliance of this song lies in the lyrics, as they attempt to encompass nearly every facet of human existence, with the ultimate message being that one day, everyone's lives will become "eclipsed" by any one of the factors that were mentioned in the album's earlier tracks.
At it's core, "Eclipse" acts as the catharsis for all of the emotional build up that is assembled through songs such as "Time", "Money" "Us And Them" and "The Great Gig In The Sky". David Gilmour's and Roger Waters' vocal harmonies manage to convey a sense of ease and relaxation, even if the lyrics themselves are anything but. The grand nature of the song as a whole works well to conclude Pink Floyd's musical masterpiece.
For better or for worse, an existential crisis is almost always guaranteed upon finishing The Dark Side Of The Moon.
