10 Best Rock Album Closers Of The 2020s (So Far)

4. Distance - Mammoth WVH (Mammoth WVH)

The music video for Mammoth WVH's song Distance opens with home footage of a young Wolfgang Van Halen talking with his recently-deceased father, Eddie.

Grab the tissues, this is going to get emotional.

Wolfgang's debut album under the Mammoth WVH name came out in the Summer of 2021 and the presence of his dad can be felt all over it. The opening song is called Mr. Ed, which is pretty on the nose, and then there's this heartfelt tribute to the fallen legend.

Distance, which was the first of eight singles to be released from the album, isn't musically complicated or boundary pushing, but it is incredibly sincere, honest, and emotional.

The crux of the record is that Wolfgang will always be with his father, no matter the distance, which is a beautifully mature sentiment from a young man who had recently experienced loss.

Such a simple arrangement actually lends weight to these words, as it doesn't get in their way. It's a hard ask for anyone to listen to this song and not get a little bit teary, as Wolfgang makes it very clear that his dad was instrumental in getting him to this stage in his life.
