10 Best Rock Album Music Covers Of The 2000s

5. The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me - Brand New

If you ask a music critic today to name one of the most important albums in the history of alternative rock, they'd probably present you with Brand New's 2006 effort The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me.

The band were originally just a skater rock outfit, but matured mightily with this release, which explored heavier themes such as depression and the impact of religion on society. That might explain why this album's artwork looks like something straight out of a horror movie.

The picture they opted for is called "Untitled #44" and is from artist Nicholas Prior's Age of Man collection. It shows a young girl stood outside a weathered old house. On the door step are stood two adults in skeleton masks.

There's a lot to get into here. Who is the girl in relation to the skeletons? Is she hiding from them? Why is her house so run down? The image invites so many questions that, frustratingly, cannot be answered.

Brand New needed to let people know they needed to listen carefully to this album, and they chose just the cover art to do so.
