10 Best Rock Album Openers Of The 1990s

5. Rusty Cage - Soundgarden (Badmotorfinger)

The album Badmotorfinger was not only the first 90s release from Soundgarden, but you could argue that it began the band's career as we know it today.

Their third record, this was the one that launched the lads from Seattle into the stratosphere and laid the groundwork for their release three years later; the undeniable Superunknown.

Music critics old and new have commented on how unusual this album sounds, owing to the various unique tunings and configurations used by the band.

A perfect example of this comes within the first few seconds of Badmotorfinger; the opening to the opening song, Rusty Cage.

Guitarist Kim Thayil tuned his bottom E string all the way down to a B to create the infectious intro riff to Rusty Cage, which made the whole song sound like it's from another planet.

Throw in Chris Cornell's heavenly voice and some exquisite imagery in the lyrics, and you've got your recipe for an instant 90s classic.

If you disagree with Rusty Cage being on here, then you might wanna take it up with Johnny Cash, who covered the song in 1996.

Gonna argue with the Man in Black?

Didn't think so.
