10 Best Rock Album Openers Of The 1990s

3. Enter Sandman - Metallica (Metallica)

It's safe to say that Metallica really went for it when they released their first 90s album.

After dominating the thrash metal scene in the 80s, James Hetfield and his merry men turned their attention to more traditional heavy rock. The end result was the much-lauded "Black Album".

Known officially as just "Metallica", which is really boring, the Black Album gave the band their first US number one, sold about a gajillion copies, and established the group as one of the deities of the genre.

Sad but True, Wherever I May Roam, The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, these are just a handful of the great songs that it has to offer. And that's before you take a trip to Never-Neverland.

Enter Sandman is, quite simply, huge. It has one of the best riffs ever written, a simple chorus that packs a gigantic punch, and an air of creepiness that's impossible to shift.

It's perfectly plotted, structured, and performed. It appealed to fans new and old and is still one of the band's biggest songs to this day.

Even if Hetfield does sound a bit like he's singing "Eggs Delight".
