10 Best Rock Albums We Can't Wait To See In 2014

7. Paolo Nutini - Caustic Love

Release Date: 14/04/14 The inevitable return of the Scottish folk singer could not be more anticipated, five years after the release of the soul-inspired "Sunny Side Up" Paolo is finally back with new material. Coming after the break up from his long term girlfriend Teri Brogan, whom Paolo's first album These Streets revolved around, it is likely that Caustic Love will be a slightly darker output from the Paisley singer. The album was announced on Twitter last year by Paolo, to a massive response from his fanbase eager for his return. The album's release date was not set as a deadline by the record company, rather Paolo has been given the freedom to choose when he is happy with what he has produced, meaning that the album may well be the most refined and polished release to date. Which if his previous two efforts, These Streets (2006 - 1.5 million sales) and Sunny Side Up (2009 - 1.5 million sales) are anything to go by, is very exciting news indeed. More exciting however, was the recent release of the first single from the album "Scream (Funk My Life Up)" which breaks new ground for the Scots singer. No longer is he a boy with an acoustic guitar or exploring the joys of big band swing music, he is now seemingly into a much more electric sound. The single is a love letter to 70s blues, with trumpets and harmonic backing singers accompanied by dirty sounding electric guitars and Paolo's signature vocal work as he focuses upon his lust throughout the song. If the rest of Caustic Love follows the style of this single we are going to see an entirely new side to the singer, and this may well prove to be his best work so far.
