10 Best Rock Albums Of 2021 (So Far)
9. The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy - Rob Zombie
Ever since the early 2010's, the entire ride through Rob Zombie's albums has been nothing but bugnutty. Even though he's still got the usual horror themed rock and roll going on, a lot of the humor has a lot more Frank Zappa energy going for it than people probably realize. Now we have the latest offering, with a title that's just as hard to remember as all the other ones.
That doesn't mean that you forget the music on here though. Far from it. Sitting down with this record, this is one of the most savage albums that Rob has put out in ages, using the best of his backing band while also dipping his toes into everything from classic Zombie material to flirtations with stuff like stoner metal. Just listen to something like Boom Boom Boom and tell me that it doesn't work just as well if it were coming off of an old Kyuss record from back in the day.
Aside from one too many interludes in spots, a song like The Triumph of King Freak has subtle reminders of songs like Dragula from back in the day. Rob's still got a few more miles on him than the rest of the metal crowd, but this is still a worthy soundtrack if you need to dig through the ditches and burn through the witches.
