10 Best Rock Albums Of 2021 (So Far)
6. Soberish - Liz Phair
Any announcement of a new Liz Phair album is sure to incite fear in most fans. Considering her last full length album had whatever the hell Funstyle was, there was no reason to believe that this one was going to change the world overnight or anything. And yet, Liz actually found a way to come back stronger in her evergreen period.
Ever since Prince past away, Liz has talked about taking the time to preserve her own legacy while she still can, and Soberish delivers on that in spades. While it's not necessarily Exile in Guyville Part 2, this is exactly the kind of Liz that we fell in love with back in the day, having killer hooks and the same snarky wit that makes these songs a lot more fun than just your standard pop rock outfit.
There are even a few songs like the title track that give a nod to the screwed up romanticism that she was so good at back in the day too. We've already seen a '90s female legend make a comeback with Fiona Apple's Fetch the Bolt Cutters last year. Even though Soberish might not be that big, it's just nice to see her on stable ground. Thanks for checking in Liz...it's nice to know that you're doing okay these days.
