10 Best Rock Albums Of 2021 (So Far)
7. Van Weezer - Weezer
The one problem that Weezer has been having in the past few years is just how overexposed they've been. It's not that any of their albums have been the greatest of all time...they just refuse to rest and like to just pop out albums once every 6 months or so. While OK Human was definitely something different than what we were used to, Van Weezer still managed to impress us regardless.
After sitting on the single End of the Game for the past year, this was a welcome return to the glam rock style of the late '80s. Since this was the stuff that Rivers Cuomo was raised on, you can tell how much passion he puts into these performances. The Weezer charm hasn't gone anywhere though, with most of the songs being about the love of playing gigs and making dorky attempts to talk to girls.
Compared to the usual dopey love songs that Weezer writes, the music here has that punch that makes the whole thing seem inspiring for them again. After the tragic death of Eddie Van Halen just a few months ago, Cuomo even went the extra mile of dedicating this album to his memory. The licks are nowhere near Eddie's level, but there's no doubt that Eddie would have definitely been proud of this.
