10 Best Rock Bands Of The 2000s
2. Green Day
If you had thought that Green Day were going to be one of the greatest bands of the decade at the start of the '00s, you would have probably gotten a lot of confused looks. After all, the band that practically started the pop punk movement was looking a bit worse for wear ever since Dookie, only having the occasional hit song on the charts while newer acts passed them by. Many acts can get big once, no one gets it twice though...right?
After making the folk rock gem Warning, these Bay Area natives came roaring back with a vengeance on American Idiot, bringing them back to the top of the rock charts pretty much overnight. Unlike the usual pop punk acts of their time, Green Day had reinvented themselves with a pop punk opera, detailing the lives of disenfranchised kids trying to make a name for themselves in '00s America.
Even after that, Billie Joe Armstrong and co. managed to pull off another miracle by delivering another rock opera in 21st Century Breakdown, which saw them breaking down their sound even more into classic rock territory. While this was a far ways away from their punk rock roots, this was more about a statement of purpose. Even though tons of bands fizzle out after a couple of albums, this is the phoenix from the ashes that most other acts wish they could be.
