10 Best Rock Comeback Albums

1. Hysteria - Def Leppard

It's hard to really nail down what constitutes a band making a comeback. Sometimes you have to deal with manager troubles, and other times there's band members who just aren't gelling with the rest of the band at the time. In Def Leppard's case, it was if all the sh*t hit the fan at the exact same time when making Hysteria.

Already having to follow up the massive success of Pyromania, the band was dealt a heavy blow when superproducer Mutt Lange wasn't going to be available to produce the album.

What followed was every band's worst nightmare, with jam sessions going nowhere and a break that ended with drummer Rick Allen losing his left arm. Once they picked themselves up though, Lange returned and Def Leppard became a functioning unit again.

Working for the better part of three years, the result was one of the most airtight set of songs of the entire MTV era of heavy metal, bringing together one classic melody after the next on ballads like Love Bites and singalongs like Animal and Pour Some Sugar on Me.

Whereas most bands try to write a couple of good songs and pad the rest of the album out with filler material, this is the hard rock equivalent of an album like Michael Jackson's Thriller, with every single song having the potential to be a single cut.
