5. Band on the Run - Paul McCartney and Wings
If you were a Beatles die hard back in the day, you probably would have thought that Paul McCartney was losing his damn mind after the breakup.
Though his first few records had their fair share of bright spots, the more eccentric side of RAM and the beginnings of Wings on Wild Life was starting to scare many of the hardcore fans away with how ramshackle they were. Just when Paul was at his lowest, he stationed in Nigeria and came through with his finest post Beatles release.
That didn't come together that neatly though. With the rest of the band quitting before they went to Nigeria, most of what you hear on Band on the Run is just Paul, Linda, and Denny Laine making the tracks. When left to his own devices though, Paul still had his signature gift for melody, unearthing gems like the title track and Jet into legendary status.
Even when delving into newer territory, Paul still finds a way to put some of his rock and roll groove into things, like the strange swing of 1985 or the return to the acoustic guitar on the pseudo sequel to Blackbird with Bluebird. Though Paul was the poster child of someone falling from grace for a while, this was the record that may have made his former Fabs a little bit nervous.
