10 Best Rock Comeback Albums
6. Blackstar - David Bowie
The entire career of David Bowie after the turn of the millennium was a bit scattered to say the least. From his original album Toy being shelved by him to sustaining a heart attack onstage in the middle of the tour for Reality, many people were wondering whether the Thin White Duke had the potential to wow us like he did back in the day. Even though he did, that final comeback came at a very high price.
While Bowie's album the Next Day had established him back in full force, Blackstar was the eerie blending of genres that we had known Bowie for back in his Berlin period. Accompanied by jazz titans, Bowie makes epic tracks that reflect on his own mortality and what he thinks about leaving this Earth one day.
That day would end up coming a lot sooner than expected though, with Bowie passing away just a few days after the album was released after fighting a long battle with cancer. It's almost respectable how much Bowie was dedicated to his craft that he managed to give us everything he could up until his final days. The end may have been near, but you don't see fear in an album like this. This is a man in his final moments and is going to go out swinging no matter what the cost.
