10 Best Rock Drummers Of All Time
4. Keith Moon
During the Who's heyday, the band had been writing smart rock tunes with traces of pop and R&B. Once they had expanded into the grander scope of rock music, Keith Moon's drumming jettisoned the band to hard rock heights.
Moon's drum fills throughout the band's glory days from "Pinball Wizard" to "Won't Get Fooled Again" are near-impossible of drumming tenacity. Keith's personality outside of music was incredibly wild and theatrical, which showed greatly in his drumming, which was always on time but also slightly deranged. It became a bit of joke amongst Who fans that bassist John Entwistle really was the timekeeper of the band while Moon was the drumming hero, delivering fills that always fell right where you wanted them to.
When the Who reached the end of the 70's, they were dealt a tragic blow when Moon was found dead of a drug overdose. Though the band is still going strong today, no drummer that has come through their ranks has come close to capturing the energy that Moon possessed. While the Who may have had emotional lyrics and performances from each respective member, Keith Moon was the band's beating heart throughout every song they played.
