10 Best Rock Drummers Of All Time

3. Ringo Starr

Many drum aficionados may be of the opinion that Ringo Starr was not that good a drummer. Yes, there are moments in the Beatles' career where Ringo's drumming isn't particularly flashy and doesn't break any new ground, but that's not really the point of what makes him excellent.

The expertise of Ringo Starr comes from his sense of feel and the way he approaches each of the Beatles' tracks. Starr's way of drumming on record was incredibly musical with how he would play appropriately for each song he was presented by Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison. He even had moments of unabashed rock like on the proto-metal clangor of "Helter Skelter."

His way of playing led to his fills becoming iconic from the opening tumble of "She Loves You" to the human drum loop behind "Tomorrow Never Knows." Starr may not be the most complicated drummer of the bunch, but his perspective on the art of drumming never led him to put his hands in the wrong place. Sure, he may not blow you away with every fill, but Starr's position in every Beatles is always in the perfect spot with the right amount of swing and flair.
