10 Best Rock Duos Of All Time
4. Death From Above
For over a decade, Death From Above 1979 seemed to be an all time great one-and-done band. Their 2004 album You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine was a noisy classic from a great era in indie, raucous, silly, properly danceable rock, funky guitar music for those who couldn’t stomach Red Hot Chilli Peppers et al.
The album sold well but, typically, the pair couldn’t see eye to eye, and with no cooler heads in the band to prevail, DFA were done. 10 years later, though, the much missed noise/dance/punk outfit reunited for a follow up.
They’ve stuck around since then, dropping the “1979” suffix (after long legal wranglings with the DFA record label) and releasing a further two albums. If we’re being totally honest, none of them have quite lived up to that original 2004 record, which was so refreshing, different, and energetic that everything since has really been chasing that high,
All the same, it’s great that DFA seem to be back for good, and as a live act, there are few that can hold a candle to them.
