10 Best Rock Guitarists Of The 1960s
7. George Harrison
George Harrison was far from a flashy guitar player, at least, not in the usual way for guitarists of the time. He rarely worked the fret board in the way of Eric Clapton or Jimmy Page, but his intricate and laid back approach provided the back bone to many of The Beatles most loved songs.
As was The Beatles dynamic, there was never one definitive song writer or lead/ rhythm guitarists, so it's not always clear who's influence you're hearing come through. In many ways, this was part of the brilliance of The Beatles, it was a collaborative effort (for the most part).
But, Harrison's guitar work is the most distinctive. Here Comes the Sun is a compositions that exemplifies his approach, but Something and While My Guitar Gently Weeps also showcased his beautifully eloquent and deftly skilled qualities.
He might be a subtle player, less reliant on explosive and heavily distorted guitar riffs but there isn't a rock guitarist alive that doesn't have Harrison to thank for his contribution to the practise.
