10 Best Rock Guitarists Of The 1960s

6. Peter Green

Before Fleetwood Mac consisted of a bunch of musicians sharing their dysfunctional relationships with the world, the band was fronted by blues inspired rock guitarist Peter Green.

Green's guitar playing was the thing that put Fleetwood on the map, inspiring many of his contemporaries to up their game with his seemingly effortless approach to playing lead while performing vocals. While singing, Green would play simple rhythmic parts but then explode into blues inspired rock hooks to punctuate his lyrics.

Although, the Stevie Nicks era of Fleetwood Mac over shadows Green's, he left the band with some of the most defining and mood evoking sounds of their back catalogue. Despite his chops as a hard rocker it's his effortlessly smooth playing on Albatros that became his legacy.

The transitions between Green's Fleetwood Mac and the more popularly recognised incarnation, was marked by the guitarists decent into psychedelic induced instability. Green ended up indulging far too heavily in LSD, becoming a causality of that era's particular drug of choice.
