10 Best Rock Guitarists Of The 1960s

3. Jimmy Page

Jimmy Page released some of his most defining work with Zeppelin at the end of decade. But his work throughout the '60s saw him play with a number of highly regarded bands, leading to his reputation as one of the greatest of his generation.

It's important to pay heed to the controversy surrounding Page's reputation as a guitar player. Despite his obvious talent, some of his most defining tracks were lifted from numbers composed by other artists.

One of Zeppelin's standout set pieces of their '70s tours was the track Dazed and Confused, which appeared on their 1969 debut album. The track had been a signature of Page's previous band The Yardbirds, but was originally released as a psychedelic folk number by Jake Holmes.

Page gave it the heavy rock makeover, with more onus given to the guitar parts, a heavier tone and and the inclusion of a section played using a violin bow. One cant deny the creativity of Page, but his work wasn't entirely his own...

Although this might be seen as an egregious move by Page, it's important to remember everyone at this time was pulling inspiration from elsewhere, hell, Eric Clapton's whole career was built on lifting blues licks from guys no one had heard of at the time.
