10 Best Rock Music Album Closers Of The 2000s
5. Motion Picture Soundtrack - Radiohead (Kid A)
Some of you might be wondering what this song from Radiohead's Kid A is doing here.
That album has a hidden track, which technically ends this 2000 release. However, seeing as it has no name (and is only 52 seconds long), it's getting ignored.
Mostly because it would be a crying shame not to include the fabulous Motion Picture Soundtrack.
The climax to Radiohead's fourth album, Motion Picture Soundtrack, was named for its similarity to classic film scores from the likes of Disney. A version of it had existed since the early 1990s, but it took until Kid A for it to fully find form.
Thom Yorke's wispy vocals are initially accompanied by a pedal organ, before more dreamlike synth sounds join him on this soothing piece. It brings the album to a calm resolution, as opposed to some of the all-out fireworks from elsewhere on this list.
Motion Picture Soundtrack is just beautiful, there's no other word for it. It's songs like this one that elevated Radiohead beyond a normal rock band; they were willing to try something so radically different in the name of producing the music they wanted to hear.
