10 Best Rock Music Album Openers Of The 2000s

6. Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies - Puzzles (Biffy Clyro)

Come on baby, do you think it's good to feel/Like I'm lying here swimming in memories?

Hot damn, those are some great lyrics to kick an album off with.

These words from Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro actually only arrive about a minute-and-a-half into the first track on their 2008 album Puzzles.

Living Is a Problem Because Everything Dies begins with 90 seconds of a single muted guitar note sporadically joined by drums and strings. This frantic opening swells and swells until... it all goes quiet.

Cue lead singer Simon Neil quietly presenting the audience with the aforementioned lyrics, before the song explodes into life once again.

The rest of the track is a high energy, high action musing on the frailty of human life. Not only does it go hard musically, but it doesn't pull punches in terms of subject matter.

Clocking in at over five minutes long, Living Is a Problem is a masterful, sweeping opening suite of an opener that captivates from the very first moment. It's just a shame that it got butchered for its single release.

Just put out the whole thing, you cowards!
