10 Best Rock Music Album Openers Of The 2000s
7. Cochise - Audioslave (Audioslave)
After Zach de la Rocha left Rage Against the Machine in 2000, the remaining band members decided they would replace him and hope nobody noticed. Considering they replaced him with Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, it's safe to say that people noticed.
This was a deliberate choice, as the band wanted to play in a different style to what they were used to. Cornell's more traditional approach to singing opened plenty of doors for the newly-formed supergroup, who put out their first album in 2002.
Audioslave, which was the name of the band and the album, was an utter delight. It showcased some of the best work both parties had done in years, fusing Rage's funk-influenced metal with Cornell's emotional vocal abilities.
The first track on the album was also the first single released from it. Cochise, which took its name from an Apache Native American tribal leader, had a killer hook and gave Cornell a platform to show everyone why he was one of the best singers in the world.
Any sceptics of this new projects would have been won over from the moment they hit play on this track.
