10 Best Rock Music Album Openers Of The 2000s

3. Going Under - Fallen (Evanescence)

Going Under by Evanescence didn't just begin an album, it began an entire recording career.

Serving as the first track on the band's 2003 debut release, Fallen, Going Under introduced the world to the devastatingly-beautiful vocals of one Amy Lee.

The group clearly knew what their USP was, as Lee's voice is the first thing on this song. She starts off low, almost speak-singing, before her operatic voice kicks everything into high gear.

Backed by a wall of noise from the rest of the band, Lee delivers a masterpiece in rock vocals; a flawless performance that would have no doubt made her many people's new favourite singer.

Much like with Blood on My Hands, Going Under isn't the most complex or intricate of songs, but it doesn't need to be. It packs an almighty punch and is impossible to ignore, getting anyone who hears it in the mood for a rip-roaring good time.

Evanescence were not kidding around when they sequenced Fallen. Going Under is first, followed by the massive Bring Me to Life, and then track number four is My Immortal!

Talk about an embarrassment of riches.
