10 Best Rock Music Album Openers Of The 2010s

8. Swerve City - Deftones (Koi No Yokan)

Deftones' seventh album, 2012's Koi No Yokan, takes its name from a Japanese phrase meaning "premonition of love".

It's got nothing to do with the fish, unfortunately.

The band were coming off the back of a massive hit with 2010's Diamond Eyes, so they needed something big to kick this new venture off. Thankfully, they had just the song in mind.

At just two minutes and 44 seconds long, Swerve City is short, sweet, and wastes no time in getting straight to the point. It launches into your ears with a pounding combination of guitars and drums that'll blow your brains clean out if you're not careful with the volume button.

This pace and energy doesn't stop as the song goes on, as singer Chino Moreno comes in with his own unstoppable power. It doesn't sound like a punk song, but it embodies so many of the philosophies that make that genre so enjoyable.

Swerve City was the perfect choice to open this album, as it gets anyone who hears it in the mood for a damn good time. Also, it's got a really strong name.

No idea what it means, but it's still good.
