10 Best Rock Music Album Openers Of The 2010s

3. Cry Of Achilles - Alter Bridge (Fortress)

Alter Bridge were formed in 2004 out of the ashes of the band Creed, but please don't hold that against them.

With the criminally talented Myles Kennedy as their singer, the former My Sacrifice lot were ready to take on the world and that's exactly what they did.

They were on a run of incredible albums by the time 2013 came around; a run that peaked with the release of the exceptional Fortress. It's a pick 'n' mix of great hard rock songs, but there's a case to made that the best track is the very first one.

Cry of Achilles is a sweeping six-and-a-half minute suite which kicks off with some beautiful Spanish-style guitars. This softness doesn't last long though, as the heavier portion of the song breaks the door down moments later.

This number is expertly crafted, transitioning between its many different segments with ease. Its lengthy runtime feels like nothing at all, as it earns every single one of its 390 seconds.

Whether you're after soaring vocals, a kickass outro solo, or some snazzy bass work, Cry of Achilles has it all.
