10 Best Rock Music Album Openers Of The 2020s So Far

3. Taking Me Back - Fear Of The Dawn (Jack White)

Looking more and more like Johnny Depp every day, Jack White is still at the top of his game, several decades removed from his time in The White Stripes.

He exported two albums in 2022; Fear of the Dawn in April, and Entering Heaven Alive in July. This came after four years of nothing, so it's safe to say people were pleased to see him return.

The latter release is a collection of folk-inspired songs, which is nice, but everyone's here for that mad, guitar-heavy trickery that White is known for.

There's plenty of that to go around on Fear of the Dawn, particularly on its first song, Taking Me Back. The song is classic White, with guitars so fuzzy you'll want to pet them, and with a number of effect pedals so high, they'd make a technician cry.

The singer's voice is just the right side of shouting to be effective, helping make this song as big and bombastic as it possibly can be. Is it hard rock? Is it garage rock? Is it synth rock? At the end of the day, who cares?

It's a fantastic return to form from Mr. White, who everybody had sorely missed.
