9. Parasite - The Raven Age
The Raven Age were formed in 2009 by guitarists Dan Wright and George Harris.
If you're wondering where you've heard the name Harris before, it's because it's a very common surname in English. However, in this case, it means that George is the son of Iron Maiden founding member Steve Harris.
Whilst they haven't yet reached Maiden levels of success, the band have done very well for themselves with the three albums they've released thus far. Their 2023 release, Blood Omens, contains this song.
Parasite's video tells a pretty standard story of a young girl being taken in by a dark cult.
They lead her through some catacombs before converting her to their order, eventually setting her up to be sacrificed to their leader. Before the final blow can land, she wakes up.
What sets Parasite above the rest, is the utterly fantastic design of its villain.
The creature that the protagonist is about to be slaughtered for is a beautifully constructed half-man, half-raven creature that would fit right into a major blockbuster horror movie.
If the band want to make this guy into their mascot, then they could have the next Eddie on their hands.
