10 Best Rock Music Videos Of The 1980s
3. One - Metallica
In 1938, American novelist Dalton Trumbo wrote Johnny Got His Gun, an anti-war story about a young soldier who finds himself living a half life after being seriously injured in combat.
In 1971, Trumbo directed a big screen adaptation of his novel, although that was far less successful than the book.
Why is any of this important? Well, not only does it bump up the word count for this article, but it also sets the scene for one of the most harrowing music videos in metal history.
The song One by Metallica features very similar themes to Johnny Got His Gun, which is why scenes from the film were incorporated into the song's music video.
Shots of the lead character writhing around in pain and begging for death are spliced in with the band playing the song in a dark and dingy warehouse. If you're in the mood for some bleakness, then look no further.
One is already a disturbing song, but using clips from the movie only adds to the terror. Whilst it's hardly a feelgood video, it does make a pretty powerful statement.
