10 Best Rock Music Videos Of The 2020s So Far

1. The Writing On The Wall - Iron Maiden

If you asked somebody to picture an Iron Maiden music video in the year 2021, chances are what they would come up with wouldn't be a million miles away from this.

Serving as the lead single for their album Senjutsu, The Writing on the Wall is another fantastic edition to Maiden's recent catalogue. When time came to bring the video to life, the band reached out to two of the best in the business.

Former Pixar executives Mark Andrews and Andrew Gordon supervised this animated video, which was made by London-based studio Blinklink.

Its based on the biblical tale Belshazzar's feast, although that version probably had fewer hooded demons on motorcycles. The Maiden interpretation of the story features sci-fi elements and several story beats that were more than a little inspired by the world of Mad Max.

Iron Maiden are not a band known for their subtlety, so why should we have expected anything less from this video? It's over-the-top, it's ridiculous, but it is also absolutely badass.

This formula has worked for the band for many years, so who knows what else is to come from them as the 2020s roll on.
