10 Best Rock Power Trios

7. Muse

When Muse started to make a name for themselves in England in the late 90's, many people slagged the band off as being nothing more than another plagiarist of Radiohead's brilliance. What those naysayers didn't realize was that the band's career trajectory stretched much further than riding the coattails of Thom Yorke.

Throughout their tenure, Muse have created some of the most adventurous rock music to be produced in the 2000's, as they take on everything from prog to space rock to electronica. With Matt Bellamy at the helm, the band's songwriting has always been rock solid, as he takes on the tasks of piano, guitar, and operatic vocals.

Beyond Bellamy's brilliance, the bass talents of Chris Wolstenholme make each song growl with a ferocious intensity before drummer Dominic Howard's pummeling toms toms send each song into orbit. The group's diversity of material has also led to different musical instruments from Mellotrons to the electronic drum kit and various digital enhancements.

The group's broad scope of work has brought the band to legendary status, as they are able to fill out arenas around the world. Muse are true musical visionaries who have turned their initial rock band setup into a global musical force.
