10 Best Self-Titled Rock Albums Of All Time
6. Ramones (1976)
We hark on about the Ramones a lot on this site, but can we be blamed? These guys all but defined punk rock with the release of their debut album. After this, punk acts knew they had to step up their game. It was about keeping things punchy, feel-good and above all, rebellious.
Overly poetic lyrics about wizards and warlocks were out; long winded guitar solos were a thing of the past, and even musical talent was no longer a requisite. Punk had entered the building and it was taking rock in new directions.
Blitzkrieg Bop and Beat On The Brat, opened up the album with an unapologetic insistence, that whatever else you were doing, you were going to pay attention. For all the angst-filled and aggressive numbers on this record, it still contained the odd love song. I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, drove along with an intensity unmatched by other acts, but it exhibited the tender side of the band's song writing ability.
And is there a more iconic album cover?
