10 Best Soft Rock Albums Of All Time

5. Jagged Little Pill - Alanis Morrissette

Most of the alternative scene had a bit of a love hate relationship with the concept of soft rock. Angsty was how we played it back then, and there was no way that the golden oldies were going to come back when you had people like Pearl Jam all over the radio. Little did we know that one of Canada's finest had an album that was about to hit us over the head.

On the surface, most of Jagged Little Pill is a pop album in alternative clothing, with Alanis Morrissette being one hell of a frontwoman behind the mic. Outside of the more celebrated songs like You Oughta Know or Ironic, there's a lot of genuine emotion on this record, like All I Really Want's verbal spit or not putting up with a clingy boyfriend on Not the Doctor. She may have been singing from her heart, but even Alanis might not have known how accurately she described things here.

Every songwriter might look to write something people can relate to, but songs like Perfect are the greatest example of capturing a specific emotion, whether that be frustration or sadness about never being able to live up to your potential. That kind of album doesn't sound like a walk in the park, but there's some light at the end of that tunnel. You might not be perfect, but that's what makes you the person you are today.
