4. Me – Music For Cars EP (2013)
The final track on the band’s third EP is not particularly well-known. This is understandable given the melancholic tone and the absence of a distinctive hook. And despite how many devoted fans love this track, it’s rarely played live.
However, there’s no denying how immersive this track is. ‘Me’ has a dark yet dreamy aesthetic that’s perfect for midnight drives or early-morning skylines. The ambient-style electronics hook in the listener and the minimalist percussion is perfect for the song’s subdued atmosphere. Oddly enough, ‘Me’ also features a saxophone during the bridge, yet it doesn’t feel out of place at all. It merges seamlessly with the ambient instrumental and creates something truly unique.
Healy’s vocal delivery is simple but still captivating. He sounds mentally and physically drained as he sings about escapism, depression, and losing family members throughout this track.
For those who aren’t familiar with the band’s earlier material, ‘Me’ is simply a must-listen due to the beautiful atmosphere and the authenticity of the vocal delivery.
