10 Best Songs By The 1975

2. Antichrist – Facedown EP (2012)

‘Antichrist’ was released back in the summer of 2012 as part of The 1975’s first EP, and though it’s not a particularly well-known track, it’s loved by hardcore fans of the band.

‘Antichrist’ is the darkest song the band have ever put out. Healy’s low vocal tone is completely different from his usual delivery and the ambient electronics create an otherworldly atmosphere in line with the spiritual themes.

The song then transitions into a much more energetic section with crashing symbols from Daniel and a pounding bassline from MacDonald. The electronics also become more euphoric alongside a lighter vocal delivery from Healy. This finale is a little messy but this only adds to the emotional heft of the song.

Annoyingly, ‘Antichrist’ has never been played live, and Healy has said the song just doesn’t sound like The 1975 anymore. Whilst there’s certainly some truth to this, the core fanbase would go wild if they ever performed it.
